Psalm 9 and 10

“The LORD is known by his acts of justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands” (Psalm 9, v.16)

If we say we are not like the wicked we deceive ourselves. We talk about Ego a lot at Laudate and the traps that it likes to set for us; this is a particularly dangerous one. The Ego tells us that we are righteous people, that we do no wrong and that we are worthy of praise! The Ego convinces us that our pursuit of faith and fitness is something that is entirely our own, that it is a

holy and upright endeavor, that it sets us apart from others—from “the wicked”.

But we are the wicked! Yes, even we faithful followers of Christ can be among the wicked. When we flaunt our holiness, use our strength or our physique to lift ourselves up while putting others down, we abandon the pursuit of righteousness; we abandon the title of “the righteous.”

“Arise, LORD, do not let mortals triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence” (Psalm 9, v. 19)

The call of the Psalmist for God to put humanity in its place should be the call of our own hearts in training. We are mere mortals, not gods. We may make great strides in training and grow deeper in prayer but we are never perfect like the One God of Israel. Our role is not to lift up ourselves but to lift up others. We are to lift our praises to God and rejoice in the steadfast

strength of God as one body.

“Why does the wicked man revile God? Why does he say to himself, “He won’t call me to account”?” (Psalm 10, v. 13)

Only God can judge righteously—that it why we leave judgement to God. It is not our place to judge others for where they are on their journey of faith and fitness. Likewise, we should not judge ourselves but seek the judgement of God, trusting that in His judgement God renews and redeems all things.

Embody this in your training and see for yourself what the sanctifying grace of God can do for you and your community.

By iron, through iron, to iron. Laudate!

God Bless,

The Laudate Team
